Really fun project. We made lemonade out of an unfortunate situation when a tree crushed the existing sunroom. Took the opportunity to build back a more historically appropriate space and made the space brighter and more customized to the clients need. We added a new custom bench with specific storage requirements. To me, craft is the marriage of beauty and function - the clients let me run with ideas and added some of their own. Such a rewarding build.

It’s been an absolute pleasure restoring this home after a tree crushed the enclosed side porch during Hurricane Helene.

We were able to move quickly through the design and approval process with the local historic commission. The original porch had been enclosed back in the 1970s—and it showed. We rebuilt it with more historically appropriate details, adding windows and charm that feel right at home with the original architecture. We recreated period-specific elements to help the new structure blend seamlessly with the old.

The home’s original windows were starting to deteriorate from years of exposure due to a lack of overhangs. We got approval to extend the eaves, offering proper protection and helping to preserve those beautiful windows for years to come.

Inside, we’re about a week and a half away from wrapping up a thoughtful interior that will serve as both a gathering space and a music room. We’ve also refinished, refurbished, and repainted much of the interior that was damaged when the tree came through the roof.

I can’t wait to show the rest. I’m deeply grateful for clients who trust us with their homes—we never take that lightly.

@taycosolar finally put the cherry on top with our solar + battery backup system to help us be more resilient within our ever aging and feeble grid system in #hickorync

The financial payback made a ton of sense and it feels good knowing we’ll be able to keep the power on in the event of an outage. Likely with one more battery, we could stay off grid, comfortably, indefinitely. (Weather dependent)

Currently I’m committed to and working with a large local contractor in producing a couple showpiece homes alongside @cbbdesignfirm . I don’t have immediate availability, however, if you’re looking to build a beautiful, sensible, sustainable home in the next year or two then let’s start a conversation. This is my passion. I’m working towards the all-in-one design/build process for sustainable home - an area of expertise that’s severely underserved and undervalued in my area.

Here’s to a new year and renewed optimism for a better future!
